First web-offset magazine printer to gain FSC certification
Garnett Dickinson Print is delighted to have recently achieved Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. The Yorkshire based company is one of only a handful of printers in the UK, and the only web-offset magazine printer in the country to be awarded certification. The FSC is an international organisation that promotes responsible management of the worlds' forests. Founded in 1993 in response to concerns about deforestation, and the demand for a trustworthy labelling, they ensure a source of sustainable and environmentally friendly raw materials. They also run a system known as Chain of Custody in which certified companies can provide full audit trails of wood products, such as paper. This allows them to be traced back through all parties to the original certified forests they came from.
Why has Garnett Dickinson Print Gained Certification?
Garnett Dickinson is committed to minimising the environmental impacts caused by its activities and this has been demonstrated by its ISO 14001 accreditation since 2002. By gaining FSC certification the company is showing its commitment to sustainable, environmentally friendly products. Material can be sourced from sustainable well managed forests, where all environmental issues are taken into account including habitat, social, and ecological factors.
What does this mean to our customers?
Nick Alexander, Group Commercial Director commented on the certification: “We are delighted with the accreditation and the benefits it will bring to our customers. Firstly it gives our customers peace of mind that they are printing with an environmentally responsible printer. Customers can now demonstrate their own commitment to the environment by using the FSC tick tree logo on their printed matter. We hope this will encourage publishers and other printers to share their environmental responsibilities.”
Garnett Dickinson Print was also recognised for their environmental achievements and approach, being awarded ‘Highly Commended’ Best Environmental Printer 2005 at the Printing World Awards in the Summer and is an environmental finalist in the Print Week Awards being held in mid October. The company ensures that their printing operation has minimal impact on the environmental and has very rigorous programmes in place to reduce waste and conserve energy. Garnett Dickinson Print specialises in the printing of shorter run magazines, catalogues and brochures for publishing companies and a wide range of other customers throughout the UK.
